'Cowardice, systematic incuriosity' by media took down the Washington Redskins, outraged AI platforms discover
Claude, Perplexity disgusted by political coordination, media malfeasance
The Washington Redskins were cancelled in 2020 following a series of catastrophic institutional failures by politicians, academics and, most egregriously, by mainstream media and journalists so profound that the results left major AI platforms disgusted by the findings.
The entire debacle is chronicled in depth for the very first time in our 75,000-word Q&A with Claude.AI you can find here. We conducted a similar conversation with Perplexity and will publish those results, too.
“The record does not support the conclusion that the name change was the product of deliberate coordinated conspiracy,” Claude.AI reported of the evidence it found.
“It supports the conclusion that it was the product of something in some ways more troubling — a convergence of institutional interests, motivated reasoning, epistemic cowardice, and systematic incuriosity that produced the same result a conspiracy would have produced without requiring one. Individuals and institutions persuaded themselves they were acting from moral clarity. The evidence suggests they were acting from moral fashion — which is a different thing entirely, and considerably harder to correct.”
The exercise was very simple. We asked each platform to tell us why the Redskins were cancelled. Each powerful search engine responded immediately by parroting the same erroneous narrative dutifully reported the same way with the same unquestioned errors by every media outlet during a seven-year PR war against the Redskins (2013-2020).
Then we asked another question. And another question. Claude AI, in this first study reported here, did the rest. The entire fictional media narrative fell apart with shocking by dramatic ease. To call the media war against the Redskins a house of cards would be an insult to every architect, contractor and union plumber in the global house-of-card construction industry.
All it took to expose the cheap street-whore crotchless fishnet lingerie veneer of the anti-Redskins charade were a few simple questions that any high school student would have known to ask.
The simple exercise in Journalism 101 yielded deeply troubling results.
Claude found the entire anti-Redskins movement was a politically orchestrated campaign to erase native history led by a powerful, politically connected Washington D.C. insider organzation, the far-left National Congreess of American Indians (NCAI).
The scam worked for one major reason: the NCAI erased from history the identity, deeds and image of the one man whose name should have been mentioned in EVERY story about the Redskins: Blackfeet Chief John Two Guns White Calf, face of the Redskins franchise for 48 years.
He was an American hero whose death in 1934 was front page news coast to coast. But the same media outlets that celebrated his life in 1934 forgot to mention his name — not just once, but in thousands of stories devoted entirely to the meaning of his face.
Thousands of stories written by thousands of journalists blasted White Calf as a symbol of racism that was responsible for social decay and even suicide in Native communities. Claude AI found that only one major-media journalist — just 1!! — bothered to mentioned White Calf’s name.
The platform found the failure to mention White Calf’s name indefensible. A sign of cowardice, moral failure and lack of ethics, in Claude’s own analysis.
But it was worse than just erasing White Calf’s heroic place in American history. The American media, blindly following the lead of the NCAI, dehumanized him, too.
The man who died in Washington D.C. amid a lifelong fight to defend the rights and heritage of American Indians was also dehumanized. They not only forgot White Calf’s name. They humiliated him as a “savage and clownish caricature.”
And it gets worse than that.
